High-quality hardware solutions – developed to fit your needs
FlexRIO System Planning and Development

We take care of the complete planning and development of customized systems based on FlexRIO. From selecting the right hardware to software development, we program your solution precisely to your requirements. If there is no suitable FlexRIO module for your application yet, we are happy to develop custom modules to your specifications. Tell us your requirements, and we will deliver a tailored solution that integrates seamlessly into your system.
Example: FlexRIO fiber optic module

Testing fiber optic communication up to 2.5 Gbit/s based on National Instruments FlexRIO.
Complex systems such as phased array antennas include a large number of control units and distributed intelligent subsystems that are networked with each other to exchange information.
This creates demand for ever faster bus systems with high data rates and short response times. The highest data rates with high immunity to interference and no electromagnetic emissions are achieved by transmission over fiber optics.
Testing such antenna control units requires tools that, on the one hand, record and evaluate the data the device sends over fiber optics. On the other hand, the device must be supplied with large amounts of data via the optical interface and excited with various stimuli.
For testing and design validation of a control unit and its counterparts, IRS developed an interface for up to 16 receive and 16 transmit fibers. The system is based on National Instruments FlexRIO cards extended with adapter modules developed by IRS.
Example: FlexRIO Ethernet interface

Software solutions exist for recording Ethernet traffic. However, when the exact timing behavior of a control unit has to be verified down to a few nanoseconds, software solutions are not sufficient. This requires hardware that accesses the physical interface directly.
National Instruments FlexRIO PXI cards have proven to be an excellent basis for this challenge. They can easily be integrated into the customer’s existing PXI test system and are extremely powerful at processing and storing large amounts of data quickly.
As an addition to the FlexRIO base, IRS developed an adapter module that can test up to 4 Ethernet interfaces. Digital channels are also available, on which every edge change is logged with a timestamp. In addition to the exact timestamps of the Ethernet frames, this makes it possible to determine temporal correlations with digital switching events. The Ethernet frames and digital switching events can be streamed continuously to disk with their respective 20ns timestamps.
An analysis tool is available for offline analysis and visualization of the received data.
Generation and detection of pulse signals

In-house development of a FlexRIO adapter module to customer specifications.
Generation and recording of pulses with adjustable pulse width and period for different voltage levels (TTL, CMOS, etc.) in the nanosecond range.
